Dick Traweek, a close friend and mentor was killed on Monday in Brentwood. I just called him last Wednesday to tell him how much our friendship meant to me. I had just pulled up to my house and had this overwhelming feeling that I should call him. I'm so glad we had the chance to talk. Yesterday I got the call saying he was gone. I feel numb. Please join me in praying for his family, the Traweek's. The only other thing I can say is, if there's someone you need to say something special to but you haven't said it yet, don't wait. We're not promised tomorrow. Make the most of today. Dick was that kind of a guy. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. If you were a friend, you were family. And if you were a stranger, he would make you feel like a friend. We should all be that way. In the acknowledgments of my book, I said I couldn't have completed it without his support. I meant it. There were times I wanted to give up because I wasn't feeling very "successful" with all the challenges life was throwing at me. He believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He wouldn't let me give up. Make that phone call. Pay that visit. Do whatever you have to do today to make some stranger in your life feel like a friend and some friend feel like family.
