Congratulations to Angel Cabrera, the 2009 Masters Champion! This was a very unlikely victory. On the first hole of a 3-man playoff between him, Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell, Cabrera pushed his tee shot way right, into the trees. His ball rested uncomfortably at the base of a large pine, leaving him flirting with a glimpse of a shot to the edge of the green. Instead of reaching the green, Cabrera's second shot slammed into another tree and the ball careened into the fairway. Fortunately for Cabrera, Perry and Campbell both hit their second shots into the greenside bunker. Cabrera and Perry both parred, finishing one stroke better than Campbell, sending them to the 10th tee for the second playoff hole. Cabrera went on to complete the second playoff hole one stroke ahead of Perry to win the Green Jacket.
Angel had every chance to give up when his tee shot on the first playoff hole went into the trees. He could have gotten despondent when his second shot hit another tree. Cabrera didn't give up though, and he didn't lose hope. He persevered and his perseverance paid off.
What a fitting end to a tournament played on Easter Sunday, the day of resurrection and hope. Happy Resurrection Day to Angel Cabrera, and to you.
